Reflection Kathleen Merten

During this course, I learned so much about designing a workshop.  I had no idea the amount of work that went into this type of endeavor.  While learning this, I made a connection to learning and instruction that I never felt as an undergraduate student.  The lessons on Bloom's Taxonomy and writing objectives brought me back to my undergraduate courses, but I could relate to these topics far more than I could then (in, dare I say, the late 80s). The objectives that I wrote just "fell" into categories as I thought about my workshop participants' learning.

This course helped me to review and think about my teaching in my classroom, in addition to the learning in my workshop.  Designing assessments before designing learning activities was something that I haven't considered in a long time.

For me, this course was a challenge.  The workload was tough, and I spent a long time reading and reviewing materials.  During this time, though, I was able to reflect on the learning of the students I work with daily.  I found that my objective writing and planning of some of my lessons needed to become more specific.  I also was gratified to know that I am doing a lot well – even after so long.

Learning is a lifelong process.
