9440 Learning with the Internet
Course Description
Everyone knows the Internet is a worldwide computer "network of networks" that sends and receives data. But what does the Internet have to do with learning? This course will answer that question and help you use the Internet to support learning in K-12 schools, especially learning enabled by collaboration, information-seeking, student research, and publishing.
Reflection
During this course I read Meaningful Learning with Technology and many technology related articles. I collaborated with my peers and instructors, participated in discussions, investigated a variety of topics, and completed projects designed to build my own knowledge of learning with technology. These experiences have introduced me to many educational opportunities the internet provides that I was previously unaware of. I was introduced to Google Tools, Web 2.0 tools, Webinars, online conferences, uses for blogs, iAdventures and podcasts.
The internet offers a vast array of tools for learning and teaching. This course emphasized using the tools provided by the internet to implement lessons and activities that engage students in constructive learning. Learning that promotes and encompasses thinking and reasoning on deeper levels. Lessons integrating the internet and other technologies offer students opportunities to build knowledge, collaborate, discuss, express their learning and publish their products. The learning and knowledge construction resulting from these opportunities will be rich and meaningful.
In summary, I left this course with a heightened awareness of using technologies to enhance learning. I also learned about some valuable tools that I look forward to integrating in my classroom.
