Reflection

“Wow,” said Lilly. That was just about all she could say, “Wow.”  This quote is from a book I read to my daughter titled Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes.  Lilly is a little mouse that just started school.  This course made me feel like Lilly.  When I think  of all the new experiences and ideas that were introduced to me during this course, I just think, “Wow!”

This was my first online course so I felt like a whole world was opened up to me.  I gained insight into many new concepts such as “Learning with vs. Learning From” technology, how technology can be used as a tool for meaningful learning, and Grappling’s Technology and Learning Spectrum. Through the discussion boards and personal reading and research, I was able to take these concepts and form them into a concept map of my understanding of Technology, Teaching and Learning.  I was also able to develop and implement a Technology Integration Learning Plan with my class.

Through the discussions and activities in this class, I developed insight into new ways to use technology in my classroom.  I had never heard of concept mapping software.  My experience with the Inspiration program to make my concept map proved to be very positive.  The process of creating my map helped me construct my own understanding and has helped me to be able to articulate my thoughts regarding the relationships between teaching, technology and learning with more confidence.  The benefits I reaped through the process of concept mapping with Inspiration software for this class were so personally rewarding that I have since purchased Kidspiration for use in my classroom with my students.

I experienced online collaboration and discussion through the Teacher Interview and Wiki Experience Assignments.  The Teacher Interview was beneficial because I learned how other teachers are using technology.  I enjoyed sharing with and learning from my peers.  The Wiki Experience was very interesting because it was my first experience with a wikispace.  I really like the wiki format and can see how it would be a very useful tool for student collaboration in our school.  I plan to develop lessons integrating wikis into my classroom and hope to encourage other teachers at my school to do the same.

Wow! I've experienced a whole new world and I know it's the right place for me!
