Introduction

In 1998, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) released the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S) which established a benchmark for student proficiency in the use of technology in education.  The ISTE followed these student standards in 2000 with the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T) which "define the fundamental concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes for applying technology in educational settings."  The student standards were updated in 2007 and the teacher standards were updated in 2008.

While the NETS-T are intended for all teachers, the University of Missouri has adopted these standards as the guiding framework for their Information Science and Learning Technologies graduate programs.  Being a Master of Education graduate from 2007 and an a Education Specialist candidate for 2009 necessitates the inclusion of both the original and revised NETS for Teachers in this portfolio.
