Reflection and Artifacts
This class was a very interesting experience for me. I really got to know how the technology coordinator feels in my district. Our first big assignment of finding out exactly what kind of technology and access is available and how it all runs, made me have an appreciation for what he does. It also gave me a deeper understanding of what actually caused the problems when our servers went down and what all would be affected.
I also learned a bit more about how the administrator feels when it comes to the staff wanting to get a new technology, or realizing that a purchased technology is not being utilized. The staff plan that my partner and I came up with ensured that each teacher in the building was trained on different available technologies (Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Inspiration, SMART Technologies, and Active Inspire Student Response System) and created lessons utilizing these different technologies. The staff was given time to work on using each technology and creating lessons, as well as designating coaches for each technology so if a teacher was experiencing difficulties there would be someone they could turn to for advice. This project really put me in the shoes of the administrator, the technology coordinator, and the classroom teacher. I had to think about what is best for the district, budget and building wise, in addition to what was best for the teachers and students.
