Designing learning experiences for professionals is very different from lesson planning for K-12 students. Learn to analyze professional development needs, select appropriate instructional strategies, translate those strategies into products, and evaluate the quality of your work. The ISD approach produces quality training programs, whether you work for a multi-national corporation or a local school district. -MU Direct

This was an intense but highly productive eight week body of work. While building knowledge of instructional design through readings and case studies, we were simultaneously going through the complete design process for a technology related instructional training course. This sounded overwhelming at first, but it was approached through a backward design process that facilitated successful completion. Beginning with the project proposal, I determined the need in my own district for teacher training in Web site creation. By establishing learning system goals and completing the corresponding assessments, the need for this training was verified. Generating a specific plan for learning objectives and assessments provided the outline for training content and formative evaluations. Creating a scenario in which to situate and launch learning provided the component necessary to anchor this training opportunity in participants’ reality. The instructional strategies and implementation plan required purposeful planning that will streamline facilitation of this training as well as ensure that it is rooted in best instructional practices. Having the plan undergo formative evaluation by two reviewers definitely confirmed the need for this project in our district and validated the learning strategies and goals for the instructional design. My complete Professional Development Plan for Researching, Planning, and Creating Original Classroom Web Sites will facilitate more equitable access to technology resources for teachers and students alike.

I have provided multiple professional development sessions, but this course has equipped me to approach any new training opportunity with a proven process for designing an effective instructional system.
