Technology Leadership in Schools (ISLT7366)

Course Description: Develop skills, knowledge, and values needed to provide leadership in schools. Analyzes characteristics of effective leaders, focusing on staff development. Explores technology and school reform, technology integration, and current issues.

Reflection: The focus of this course was writing a technology grant. In order to focus in on the best items to request in a grant, I was asked to produce and give a technology needs assessment to my colleagues. In writing and giving a needs assessment to my colleagues I learned more about how each uses technology in his or her own classroom – and in the end I was surprised by what they said they needed.

I think that is one of the greatest signs of learning – surprise. I was surprised a lot in the pursuit of this degree, and in the end I think that means I learned a lot too.

A secondary benefit of having given a technology needs assessment to my colleagues is that I think it cemented in their minds that I am a person interested in and somewhat knowledgeable about instructional technology, and since that time I have been approached much more frequently by my coworkers with questions and ideas regarding technology.
