Introduction to Web Development (ISLT7360)

Course Description: Basic web design and HTML. Covers file transfer and UNIX/LINUX servers management. Develops understanding of web graphic formats. Emphasizes user interface, navigation, and instructional design in building web sites.

Reflection: I learned how to hand-code XHTML in this course, but more importantly I learned how powerful an online learning community can be. Hand coding can be a tedious and intricate process, and my classmates were always there for me on the discussion boards when I needed help – and in the end I built a web site!

I walked away from this class thinking that I would never hand code another web page, and while that may be true, the knowledge of basic coding has helped me catch and solve lots of small problems in the many websites I maintain that are hosted by other services, like my class blog, professional blog, recipe blog, and this portfolio.
