Assessment and Evaluation
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
A. Teachers apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.
Assessing in the technology classroom allows for a greater variance in the type of assessment. By using an interview checklist, I am able to track my students through a verbal dialog and hold them accountable for work. Scoring guides can be used to give students a goal to work toward in any project or lesson. In a unit plan created for the Iditarod, students are assessed in a variety of formats. This allows students of all learning styles to achieve success.
B .Teachers use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

I feel that it is important to collect information from parents. Using Microsoft Word to create a parent survey proved to be a powerful tool in understanding how successful my year was from parent's point of view.

Technology also plays an important role in assessing the success of students. Through online tools like Quia and HotPotatoes, teachers can quickly gauge the outcomes of lessons and determine the current level of learning for each student. Data can be collected and lessons can be revised in an instant.

Excel can be used to sort and analyze test scores throughout the year. I created a spreadsheet to use with my student benchmark testing and this allows me to see exactly where my students are. I also created an Excel spreadsheet for the entire gradelevel to use in reporting and comparing scores on common assessments. This has proved to a useful tool in determining teacher strengths and enhancing collaboration.

C.Teachers apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

In evaluation of students, it is important to utilize observation, scoring guides, and interviews. By simply walking around my own classroom, I am able to determine if students are using technology appropriately and if it is increasing their productivity. In a project titled, Piggletown Planners, I was able to observe students by walking around, question their activities, and students designed a written letter, created a graph, and the scoring guide allowed me to assess their work.

In my Iditarod Unit, students are assessed and evaluated through multiple choice testing, observation, interviews, and scoring guides. Providing multiple formats for assessment is the ultimate way to maximize productivity in the classroom.
