INTRODUCTION

We’ve just finished reading “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” and guess what?  Mr. Vinnie Ozdale has a job for you!  Vinnie is building a new subdivision here in Hillsboro. It's going to be called "Piggletown Meadows" and guess who's going to be living there? Hammy, Rooter, and Oinky!

Do you have your Three Pigs House Design Planning Page?

    TASK
Vinnie Ozdale would like you to research the most cost effective, safe way for the pigs to build their new homes.   There are a few different options for the pigs, but the bottom line is, they MUST be safe from the old, drooly mouth fox. Safety is a big issue, so put on your hard hat and get ready to plan. You will be planning and making a recommendation to the pig of your choice very soon!

    PROCESS

Step 1: Choose a Pig!

You and your team will choose a pig to build for. You must all agree on one pig to build for because each pig has very specific requests about their home. As a Piggletown Planner, you must carefully follow their requests. They have each specified which strong material they would like used.

  • Oinky: He would like a house made of Unbreakable Iron.  He thinks this is the safest material to use and he likes the look of it.

  • Rooter: He wants a house made of Super Steel.  He wants to be able to polish it so it will shine.

  • Hamlet: She wants a house made of Perfect Plywood so she will be able to paint her house a bright shade of pink.

Step 2: Cost Research

You will be researching three cost options for the pig's house you chose. Each member of your group will need to research one option. You will then report to each other the cost you have determined.

Option A: HOUSE OF STRONG MATERIALS: This option will provide the pig with a house made out of the strong material they chose. They will not need a fence or security system with this option.

Option B: HOUSE OF STRAW WITH A FENCE: This option will be only a house of straw, but with a strong fence to keep the fox out. The fence will cover then entire perimeter of the pigs 10 foot by 20 foot yard.

Option C: HOUSE OF STRAW WITH A SECURITY SYSTEM: This option will be only a house of straw, no fence, but with a security system in place. The plan must include 3 security cameras and an alarm.

RESOURCES

Before you can provide your pig with costs, you must visit PigMart HomeCenter to shop around for materials. PigMart has the lowest prices in the county! Click the link below to start shopping!

After shopping til ya drop at PigMart, it's time to determine the cost of the housing option you are working on for your group, (A, B, or C). This planning sheet might help you out! Be careful, since all Option A, B, and C are so different, you are responsible for carefully following directions. Don't let your group down! Work as a team!

Step 3: Presentation and Proposal...you're an oink away from being finished!

Now that you have researched option A, B, and C, you will need to prepare a presentation for your pig. Create a bar graph on a sheet of graph paper. Each member of your group is repsonsible for a specific task on the graph:
    A) Labelling the graph (Titles for the X an Y axis)
    B) Coloring the bars on the graph...neatly!
    C) Numbering the graph and putting a title

    EVALUATION
Write the pig you designed for a letter of recommendation for what their best option is. Be sure to refer to your bar graph and prices. A pig is VERY greedy when it comes to money!
