Learning Beliefs
I believe learning should be...

Learner Centered
Learners are unique individuals who bring to a learning experience their own prior attitudes, knowledge and skills.  Therefore, learning should be learner-centered, customizable and flexible to individual learner needs.  Learners should be allowed to customize the instruction to suit their needs and goals.  Where self-direction can be allowed, learners should be responsible for and involved in their learning. MORE

Social
Learners should be given the opportunity to manipulate, practice or otherwise use the instructional content, so they can fully understand the implications, limitations and benefits of the knowledge and skills as it applies to them. Learners should be encouraged to complete practice, and assessed performance, that reflects mastery of the taught knowledge and skills to an appropriate learning level.  MORE

Authentic
Learning should take place within the context of the environment of the expected performance.  Likewise, the instruction, practice and feedback should reinforce the genuine expectations of on-the-job performance.  Upon completion of the instruction, learners should understand what is expected of their performance and the context in which it must take place. MORE

Motivating
Learners should feel they know the importance, purpose and application of what they are learning.  They should know their goal in completing the instruction, and the instruction should propel them towards building momentum towards their goals. MORE
