Reflection

The purpose of this course is to provide learners with an understanding of basic web page design and authoring skills in addition to the technical expertise required for creation and publishing of HTML documents.  The course covered browser/server interaction, directory management, and web page design and development.

In this course, I learned the essentials of web page design and how to develop a web page using HTML.  This was the first development course I took in the program.  Since it was a foundation course for me, and I had no prior experience creating web pages, it was one of the most difficult classes I completed.  Learning the basics of HTML, web design, and usability was an integral layer on which I built an understanding of all other web design and authoring tools later in the program.

While coding HTML from scratch is not an industry standard for creating web products, the ability to read and write HTML code is a troubleshooting skill that I have since used in my professional life while developing in Dreamweaver (using the code view).

Also in this course, I was first introduced to web usability concepts which I have since further developed and used throughout the rest of the program and my professional work.
