Program of Study
ISLT 9455 Formative and Summative Evaluation

 Description

The purpose of this course is to develop students ability to evaluate the required content of instruction (formative) as well as the outcome of the instruction (summative) through gathering appropriate data and making judgments about the effectiveness of an instructional program or activity.

This course prepares learners to use the appropriate skills and techniques to effectively utilize the formative evaluation process to revise instruction; to plan and conduct a portion of a summative or effectiveness evaluation of an instructional program. *

Reflection

This was the first course I completed in this program of study.  I learned that instruction can only be as effective as the evaluation that supports it.

This is another course that provided instruction on a topic I regularly use in my daily work life when I evaluate the content of courseware.

Some of the most directly applicable skills I developed include evaluation strategies, procedures, methods, the creation of evaluation tools (interviews, focus groups, questionnaires), and writing evaluation plans.  I still use elements of the organization and layout of an evaluation plan I learned in this class.
