Reflection

After taking 7360 Introduction to Web Development, I was very excited to continue on with the intermediate course. I was able to continue to hone my Dreamweaver skills and learned a whole lot more about CSS. I enjoyed every bit of this course...until we hit the JavaScript unit.

Wow! I remember taking some type of programming course in my early years of college and absolutely hating it. While a lot of things technology and computer-related come very naturally to me, programming does not. I thought maybe my dislike from my earlier years was just my youthfulness, but JavaScript reinforced my lack of the type of analytical and/or logistical thinking needed to program. And JavaScript is a whole other beast. I really struggled with this part of the course and didn’t end up liking the JavaScript I incorporated into my website. I made it through and managed to do okay on the quizzes (only because they weren’t timed and I could look up the code and test it) but if I had to write the code from scratch I would have been in a lot of trouble.

Other than the JavaScript, though, I learned so much, not only about Dreamweaver and CSS, but about good web design and layout as well. Taking the intermediate course has really helped make putting my portfolio together a much more relaxing experience than had I not had this course.
