Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:

A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.

I use Scholastic Reading Counts and Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) in my classroom to assess student reading. Students can read books and take computerized quizzes using Reading Counts and leveled assessments using SRI. I have also used PowerPoint to assess student understandings of science-related topics. As a culmination of a unit on matter, I created a PowerPoint assessment to check my students' understanding of properties and changes of matter.

B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

In Scholastic Management Suite, I can view results and run reports for my students' Reading Counts quizzes and SRI tests. This allows me to quickly assess my students' reading abilities and track progress throughout the year. I also use clickers to assess student learning. Sometimes I use clickers as quick checks to see what topics I need to reteach before a test and sometimes I use them to give short quizzes. I can run many types of reports including class and individual student performance as well as an item analysis to analyze each question.

C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

Each time my students prepare and present PowerPoint presentations they are given a scoring guide. Students can use this during preparations to stay on track as well as during others' presentations for peer evaluations. I use the scoring guide while students present for evaluation of learning and productivity. In my design project for Instructional Systems Design, I use multiple methods of assessment including rubrics and self-assessments. It is important to have students self-assess during projects and assignments because it helps them not only better understand the project, but also stay on track and keep moving along.
