9469 - Designing Performance Support Systems

Return to Overview

Semester:  Spring 2009

Course Description*

This course focuses on ways of solving performance problems through means other than instruction. Learners will learn about and develop several types of performance technologies including job aids, expert systems and performance support systems. (3 credit hours)

Personal Reflection

Just like with Designing Computer Supported Collaborative Learning, the title of this course baffled me. However, the instructor had proven himself before, so I decided to see if taking this course would also pay off. Again, I was not disappointed. Performance support systems were something I had never considered before yet had used many times. The idea that a system could enhance the performance of its users through thoughtful design and without extensive training was intriguing to say the least. My only regret with this course is that, not being software engineers, we were unable to bring my team's performance support system beyond the design stage.
