Conducting needs assessments and evaluations

Needs assessments and evaluations are the cornerstones of any project. Regardless of the method used for delivery and how it's going to be designed and developed, a project should always begin with a thorough understanding of the situation at hand. The information gathered for the needs assessment helps the designer properly formulate a plan of attack to address the performance gap. Throughout the life cycle of the project, evaluations are critical and used as a gauge for whether or not the lesson(s) designed are serving their intended purpose. The feedback received from evaluations allows for proper re-design and execution prior to a product launch.

This section focuses not only on the end result but how learning systems are systematically developed with usability front of mind.
