Reflection and Artifacts
Looking back at this class, I remember thinking that the introduction to the Technology in Schools program was going to be extremely easy. I knew some of the history of technology as we know it due to my amazing computer teacher in 6th grade. I knew how to work all of the technology that my school uses and how to create projects on them. After the first few weeks of class though, I realized just how little I knew about using technology in my classroom and how little my students were really using the technology available to them.
At the time I really only had my students use technology when we went down to our scheduled computer lab time, when they were creating a "Wanted Scientist" poster using Microsoft Publisher, and using the computers to research a Social Studies topic and then typing a paper. I had a SMARTBoard in my classroom and I took full advantage of centering my lessons around it, but I realized the students weren't really using it all that much. I really took a good look at what I could add into my lessons, and the software that I was really introduced to in this class was Inspiration. It really is a great way to create concept maps that can go with any subject. This introductory class was a real eye opener for me and helped me be more open to the other technologies that I would learn about in my other classes.
