The Assignment
After we covered the theory behind mind-maps, I demonstrated several different mind mapping applications to my class. We talked about different ways they might use it in their eventual classroom. Finally, I gave them the assignment of making a mind map that they could see themselves using in their future classroom. They were to look at the Missouri Grade Level Expectations for their grade level and choose one of them to make a mind map for. While several students had made mind maps in the past, this was the first time for a majority of the students. It was a real learning experience for many of them as they discovered different ways of graphically organizing information and presenting it in a way that would correctly communicate to students.
