This project is
a compilation of two separate files found at
www.feelslikechristmas.com. The music track is an
instrumental version of “Away in a Manger” from the album
"Advent" by Simon Keal and can be downloaded at
http://feelslikechristmas.com/mps/AwayInAManger_SolomonKeal.mp3.
The vocal track is a narrative of the King James Version of Luke
2:1-20 read by Chuck Brown and can be downloaded at
http://feelslikechristmas.com/mps/ChuckBrown_Luke2KJV.mp3.
All editing was done using Audacity on a
Windows XP PC (AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 160Gb Hard Drive, 1Gb RAM)
To begin, I
imported the narrative and background music from MP3 into my
Audacity project. I cut the beginning of the narrative
(introduction) and time shifted to get a good start time between
the two tracks. The song was quite a bit longer than the
narrative so I opted to trim the beginning of the music track and go
for a quick fade in. I then moved to the end of the vocal
track and tweaked the time shift so I got the end effect that I
wanted. Realizing that I needed to move the beginning of the
dialog just a little earlier, I used the “Change Tempo” tool to
stretch a 1/2 second silence to 1 full second. This allowed me
to get the beginning and the end of the dialog exactly where I
wanted them. Finally, I adjusted the gain on the vocal by -3dB
and the music track by -9dB.
