IV. Assessment and Evaluation
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation
strategies. Teachers: |
A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety
of assessment techniques. |
~Mastery~
As the tech director at my school district I have been involved with different assessments in our district. The Renaissance Learning
programs (Accelerated Reading, Math and Grammar & Spelling) in our district are used to assess literacy, math, and communication skills.
As part of my curriculum coordinator duties, I compile information concerning MAP scores. I have used the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
web applications login site to access MAP scores and download that information into a useable format for my teachers. I, also, am responsible
for the Study Island program we are using in our district. This program has the students
complete lessons online and then take tests.
During my Master's studies I created a WebQuest on web design, a
Performance Assessment, and a Learning System.
All three of these activities included rubrics. In the WebQuest the participants were required to create their own evaluation tool to determine the criteria
for good web design. The Learning System included checklists for assessment of learning. Also, I evaluated our district curriculum using an on-line assessment
tool during my Assessment and Evaluation course.

B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and
communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. |
~Mastery~
The MAP scores and information I get from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
web site allows me to interpret the scores and see where we are not performing well. In October of 2004, I presented this information to my
staff using a PowerPoint presentation during an In-Service day. Our district will likely do
this again to help our teachers understand the areas their students are struggling in. While compiling information for our technology plan
I compile data and, with the help of my technology committee, interpret the results to determine what technology resources we need to maximize student
learning. I, also, help my teachers download the test results from Study Island. I collaborate with the
teacher to analyze the results and then make adjustments to the student's learning environment and expectations.
During my Master's studies I created a Policy Presentation for my staff to communicate
my expectations to my staff on the use of technological resources. My policies for technology use are there to help improve instructional practice and
for the enhancement of student learning.

C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology
resources for learning, communication, and productivity. |
~Mastery~
As the tech director it is important to make sure all our technological resources are being used in an appropriate manner and to evaluate what is
working and what isn't. I evaluate logs from our filter to determine Internet usage. The Interscan Gateway Security Appliance
helps me to evaluate the effectiveness of our resources. I collaborate with teachers to stress the importance of using observation as a means of evaluating students in the appropriate use
of technology. I evaluate our tech program every other year to keep our Board of Education informed of the school's resources. The Facility Survey I completed during my Master's studies
helped me to determine the availability of resources so that multiple methods of evaluation are accessible by my teachers in my district.
I used multiple methods of evaluation when I created a WebQuest on web design, a
Performance Assessment, and a Learning System during my Master's studies.
Some of the activities that needed to be completed included oral presentations, PowerPoint slide shows, research, and evaluations. Checklists were used in the learning system.
