PORTFOLIO

WHO AM I?

profile picture I am a nurse. This is my first passion. Nursing has provided me many opportunities for which I am very grateful. Throughout my nursing career I have been able to care for clients across the life span. I will always be a nurse.

I am an educator. Regardless of whether it has been teaching a patient how to care for themselves, instructing a parent on how to keep their home safe, teaching staff nurses about infection control or debriefing a group of undergraduate nursing students, I have been an educator. I will always have a passion for education.

I am a lover of technology. In both my personal and professional life I have embraced technology. I understand how technology can be utilized in many situations. I want to continue to learn more about using technology to improve performance.

HOW DID I GET HERE?

Five years ago I was offered a position as an instructor in the Clinical Nursing Simulation Lab at Saint Louis University School of Nursing. This was an opportunity almost too good to believe. It was a chance to combine all of my passions: nursing, education and technology. Working in this high tech educational environment is what convinced me to return to school to obtain a Masters in Educational Technology. I knew I could do more with my passions and wanted to learn effective strategies to combine them all. I began searching for programs and was excited to find that Mizzou's program was ranked as one of the top ten in the country.

WHERE AM I GOING?

Just recently I was offered a position coordinating E-Learning and simulation technology at SLU School of Nursing. I am excited to begin this dual role as it offers an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained in this program. I also plan to complete my Online Educator Certificate in the Fall 2014 semester.
