Reflection

Understanding the assessment component of teaching and learning is crucial. This course helped focus on assessment through the use of technology. It was very beneficial to review the basic use of rubrics and their proper design and structure. Reviewing and learning some of the online rubric tools was most helpful. I found some rubric web sites that I will definitely continue to use in my career.

Creating the procedural knowledge assignment and the scoring rubric that coincided, allowed me to go through the process of correctly structuring assessment. The learning activity is important to creating the assessment and vice versa. After this class, I understand now more than ever, how important it is to know what you will be assessing prior to the completion of creating the learning activity. Both components go hand in hand and should be created together.

Finally, completing the teacher use of technology for assessment gave me an opportunity to see how other disciplines used technology to assess students. The interview provided great feedback on benefits and struggles when using technology as an assessment tool. Knowing some of these struggles that may occur prior to the assessment will hopefully help me plan for success in the future.
