Introduction to Web Development is an amazing course. When learning how to integrate technology into education effectively, what better way than to use the communication highway of our society. This course reiterated the importance of communication in any properly functioning organization.
Web page design is a course that I currently teach in our high school. It was wonderful to refresh myself on many html codes that I had forgotten in addition to learning new techniques and styles that are now preferred with web development. Previously I had not used the W3Schools validator to validate my web pages, nor had I made that a requirement for my students in my classes. This was an excellent way to teach my students to be thorough in communication and web design by using technology tools to help us complete our tasks.
In addition, I learned more about embedding video and sound, using cascading style sheets, and proper table usage in a web page. The assignments we completed utilized all of these tools and helped me become confident in html and xhtml code. Prior to this course, I didn’t completely understand the difference between html and xhtml; however, my students are now learning the difference and how to properly use the code.
After this course, my administrators approached me about being the webmaster for our school. I now had the confidence to graciously accept their offer. In addition, I’ve been able to make several proposals to our administration about professional development for our staff with web development. We have successfully completed a district wide training in web development that has improved our communication among teachers, administration, parents, and students.
