SCENARIO 1: JUST GETTING IT DONE

Mary is nearing completion of her graduate studies and realizes that she must prepare her portfolio presentation as part of her degree requirements. This is the first she has thought about it since the beginning of her program so she isn’t sure what is required or where to start so she looks on the (SISLT) website and finds a link to the portfolio presentation website. She clicks on the link to website and is prompted for a username and password. Since she enters in her PAWS username and password and is entered into the site.

Once at the website she sees a number of different links along the left side of the page:

  • Portfolio Progress
  • Requirements of Portfolio
  • Help(Submenu: --Online tutorial--Uploading your Portfolio Artifacts--Examples of Portfolios--Creating a Resume)
  • Calendar
  • Email
  • Chat
  • Memo
  • SISLT Website
  • Settings(Submenu: --Security Options--Customize Options--)

In the middle of the page she sees a welcome letter that explains that this is the information site the portfolio project. Mary sees she can use this site to get information, communicate with her advisor and other peers who are also doing their portfolio.

After looking over the first page Mary clicks on requirements and reads the pdf that outlines the requirements of the portfolio. In order to better understand this PORTOFOLIO website, Mary clicks the “online tutorial” button and get a online training of creating portfolio first.

Next she goes to Uploading your Portfolio and sees that a site has been created for her so that she can upload her portfolio.

Next she looks at the examples to try to get an idea of what has been done before. The she gets to work designing her portfolio and creating her artifacts.

Over the next few days Mary uses an FTP program to FTP her design pages and artifacts to the site. During the process of creating her portfolio, she communicates a lot with other peers and her advisor through “Live Chat” and “Email” functions of this website. Mary saves her memo and others’ feedback in the “Memo” section. When she is done she logs back into the site and clicks on the email link. She sends an email to her advisor letting her know that the site is completed and ready for feedback. After her advisor’s final review and a series of revision, Mary uses “check list” to submit each component of the portfolio, and then send email to other committee members telling them her portfolio is ready for their evaluation.
