My thoughts on INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGN:

It is my feeling that this class helped me to detail a learning situation and plan how to motivate others to learn. Having to do the required assignments made me focus in depth on how to pass the information and/or training I had prepared to my student audience. Though sometimes the projects were daunting, the class was structured so that I was able to design, develop and plan steps to evaluate a learning system.

I didn’t know there were so many strategies that an instructor could apply to make his/her students feel as though they had the ability and confidence to succeed at learning.  It was fun to put myself in my students' seats and imagine the mental obstacles they were encountering as they were trying to learn.  Through visualizing, I was able to address the learners’ needs by writing obtainable goals, realistic objectives and a plan for the assessment of learning.

The case studies we were required to read were helpful in looking at other situations and determining the problems that might be encountered in them.  Talking about them through the discussion board allowed us to share each others' views of the scenarios, and have access to ideas and conclusions that we may not have drawn on our own.  In addition, both books were extremely helpful in explaining terms, planning strategies, lesson elements and mental models.  Overall, I felt the class did a great job of showing me the steps it takes to create an instructional design.  I am very happy that I had the opportunity to take it.
