My thoughts on INTRODUCTION TO WEB DEVELOPMENT:

I had known a little about web design, but this class made clear to me all the necessary elements and rules to hand code a great web page.  It was difficult in the beginning because I didn't know any HTML (hyper text markup language) at all.  I had seen it used in the backgrounds of pages I had previously worked with, but it was really just looked like unorganized groups of letters and numbers to me.

The class started off with elementary projects that allowed us to experiment with the code and see how to effect the appearance of text.  Later on titles, images and hyperlinks were included.  It was exciting to form code to create simple web pages that I could view on the web! As the class advanced, I learned how to create "frames" and add movies while cascading style sheets became a steady element of the assignments. Before the class was over, I wrote a proposal for my final project that contained all the particulars of what I intended to create and waited for approval from the instructor.  Getting it done was very difficult for me, but when it was complete I was pleased with it.

Part of the requirements of the course was to have an assignments page that could be accessed through the web.  I approached each new assignment with a little fear that perhaps I wouldn't be able to make my code work; however, as the weeks passed, I gained some confidence and it became fun to monitor my progress through the links on the page.  It was equally entertaining to watch the other students' assignment pages as I noticed their work advancing. The discussion board was helpful because I was able to ask about code that puzzled me and get almost immediate answers.  At the end of the course, when other students tested my site, I learned a lot about taking other points of view into consideration in the design of my web pages.  Also, having to validate the pages through W3C was eye-opening, and I learned to code so that everyone could navigate my page.

I am very glad that I took the course as it is the backbone of my knowledge in web design. I feel that I took away an incredible amount of information that I will use to create attractive and functional class web pages or to promote myself in the job market.
